Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV)
GD Canada is the C4I integrator for the USMC EFV Category I Development Programme. Working in an Integrated Product Development Team environment, GD Canada provides System Requirements Analysis, Design, Integration, Test and Delivery Support for the Communication system in the Personnel Variant and the C4I Suite in the Command Variant of the EFV.
The Communication System includes GD Canada’s MESHnet Tactical Communication Distribution System integrated with VHF, HF, UHF Air/Ground/Air Combat Net Radios, UHF SATCOM, UHF Data, and UHF squad radios. The C4I System includes embedded UNIX and MS Windows USMC system applications hosted in a client-server network architecture with integrated GD Canada flat panel displays and processors. The antenna systems utilize a combination of low-observable, low-radar cross-section technologies.
The abundance of emitters in a very constrained environment leads to serious co-site radio interference issues and potential radiation safety hazards. GD Canada performs system radio frequency modelling and simulation to determine antenna placement to optimize radio performance and minimize safety hazards. GD Canada applies strict Electromagnetic Control measures in the placement of equipment and their design which, along with cable design, ensures that Electromagnetic Interference does not degrade communication performance.
