DIGR
Datalink Independent Gateway Retrofit

Link11/16 Translation
DIGR enables a Link-16 system installed on aircraft to utilize the existing Link-11 interface to the onboard mission computer to display tactical information and to obtain tactical information for transmission. Incoming Link-16 messages are translated to Link-11 format for display on the Tactical Crew Display (TCD), and outgoing Link-11 format from the mission computer into Link-16 format for transmission on the Link-16 network.
Through the use of multi-link processing and gateways exchanging information between secure tactical data networks, DIGR helps airborne surveillance platforms realize the vision of networked warfare and improved interoperability.
Why DIGR?
- Requires no changes to the aircraft’s Data Management System to provide Link-16 operational functionality and control
- Requires no changes to the aircraft’s Link-11 system Leverages the existing NetLink translation processor
- Benefits from a team that had considerable Airborne Datalink integration experience
- Offers a schedule which would provide airborne Link-16 capability sooner that other options
- Provides future growth for Variable Message Format (VMF), Automatic Identification System (AIS)
DIGR is comprised of two components: the DIGR NetLink translation module and the DNC. NetLink hosts all the message translation functionality, while the DNC provides the interface for the operator to initialize and control the Link-16 system.
All Link-16 and Link-11 translated messages are forwarded without passing through the existing Data Management System (DMS).
