Fire Control
Fire Control/Ballistic Computation
General Dynamics Canada's involvement in Fire Control began in the early 1970s with our involvement on the US Army's XM-1 Program, which became the Abrams series of Main Battle Tanks. At that time, the US Army determined that GD Canada was the only company in the world capable of designing and manufacturing the world's first fully digital Ballistic Computer System (BCS). The BCS hardware and application software is the heart of the tank's fire control system, which also includes sensors, sight(s), and gun control equipment. Since that time, GD Canada has built over 10,000 BCSs, and has expanded to address not only Direct Fire but also Indirect Fire and Non-Line of Sight fire control systems.
We provide fire control solutions for tanks, infantry combat vehicles, artillery, multiple-launch rocket systems, and mortars. For over ten years, we have been actively involved in the development of advanced fire control systems for armored fighting vehicles, having designed and built our own Armored Vehicle Test Bed with emphasis on crew information display, soldier-machine interface, and automatic target detection, recognition and tracking.
